2018 ALDS Preview - Cleveland Indians vs. Houston Astros
2018 ALDS CLE(+140) -v- HOU (-160)
The American League Division Series (ALDS) are loaded with four experienced and talented teams returning to the playoffs for the second straight season. This year the match-ups are different in the division series and the defending World Series champions Houston Astros (103-59) open the playoffs at home against the Cleveland Indians (91-71).
No team has repeated as World Series champions in 20 years when the NY Yankees were the toast of the Big Apple. But the Astros are so well-rounded with a strong starting rotation, deep bullpen and sound defense. However, the Indians pitching rotation is the only one that ranks above the Astros in Fangraphs’ version of WAR.
Of the two division series of the Red Sox vs Yankees and Astros vs Indians, this one looks like pitching will prevail over hitting and have more lower scoring games. Game 1 is expected to be such with a low total of 6.5
The best-of-5 series starts Friday, Oct. 5 at Minute Maid Park in Houston. The teams will try to get their rhythm and timing back following four days off, and the hitters in this series will face some strong starting pitchers.

The Astros have some big bats heading back to the ALDS with Alex Bregman (.286, 31 HR, 102 RBI) its leader with Jose Altuve (.315 batting average) leading the team in hitting. But short stop Carlos Carrea has hit just .180 since returning from the disabled list Aug. 10 and his back issue is still a concern.

2018 ALDS Odds & Predictions
The Astros are a -160 favorite to win the ALDS series with a take back of +140 on the Indians to advance. The Astros won more regular season games this season than last year when they won the World Series. But the road to another World Championship is tougher this season, and any underdog in this price range of this year’s American League playoffs has to be considered.2018 ALDS Prediction - Cleveland Indians in 5 games
