Golf: A way too early guide to the 2020 U.S. Open

With 29 wins and five top 10s in major championships, Scott is a consistent competitor and well worth the DeLorean dollars.

But your kids are gonna love it. Fresh off securing his PGA Tour card (let’s be real, that was a mere formality), young Viktor Hovland (+12500) will have plenty in the tank to make a lightning-infused surge at next year’s U.S. Open. The 2018 U.S. Amateur Victor (get it?) had a Pebble Beach encore, as he finished tied for 12th at the 2019 U.S. Open just months before his 22nd birthday. If you are looking for a 1.21 gigawatts payday, the electric Hovland is the route to go.

If I were to tell you that a 34-year-old, two-time major champion and golf’s former No. 1-ranked (2011) professional is winless in five years, you’d think I was a crazy, wild-eyed scientist on the verge of being committed. Sadly, Martin Kaymer (+10000) fits that profile. When will the Martin manure end? As Biff Tannen so eloquently asserted, it is time to make like a tree and… get out of here.

Back to the Future…

As soon as we saw Rory McIlroy (+900) harness his inner thunder at East Lake last week, which led to a Tour/FedEx Cup championship, I knew he was back. From uncertain towering hook swings that had plagued him most recently to fairway-finding butter cuts, Rory has climbed his way back to the four-time major champion form we all knew was lurking. Look for McIlroy to blast his way into 2020, and charge to a second U.S. Open victory.
