PGA Tour: The 5 best betting props for the Northern Trust
The Northern Trust has thrown high-class winners in recent years — Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, and Patrick Reed, to name the last three.
This year’s event is being held at TPC Boston, which will be familiar to golf punters as the previous home of the Deutsche Bank Championship.
Phil Mickelson said a few years ago that it is a fun golf course to play, and one that requires every club in the bag.
With that in mind, here are the five best prop bets ahead of the Northern Trust.
Top Englishman: Tyrrell Hatton (4-1)
Hatton sits fourth in this year’s "birdie or better" statistic, and that’s a great pointer at TPC Boston. In the last 10 years, seven winners in Boston were ranked in the top 10 for birdie or better and that has me purring for Hatton to be top Englishman.
Hatton won at Bay Hill earlier this year — a course designed by Arnold Palmer, as is TPC Boston — and finished second through 54 holes in his previous appearance at TPC Boston. He collapsed Sunday on that occasion but is a far-better player now and can rack up the birdies to be top Englishman.

Top 10 finish: Jason Day (5-2)
I’m really sweet on Jason Day to win this tournament outright, so to get 5-2 for him finishing in the top 10 is right up my street.
The Aussie is coming off a fourth-place finish in the PGA Championship, which gave him four top 10 finishes in a row, and if he can warm his putter up, there will be no surprises if he makes it five this weekend.
At TPC Boston, Day has eight top 25s in 11 appearances. He has a fantastic chance this week.
Top Asian player: Sungjae Im (11-4)
The 2019 PGA Rookie of the Year has already tasted success this season, with a win in the Honda Classic, and he currently sits fifth in the FedEx Cup standings.
He has never played TPC Boston but he ranks 20th on tour in birdie or better and comes off a confidence-boosting top 10 finish in the Wyndham Championship.
That makes the young gun a nice-looking play in the top Asian market.
Top 20 finish: Patrick Reed (5-4)
It might not be the sexiest price but it’s hard to ignore Patrick Reed to finish in the top 20 at odds-against. The defending champ comes into this tournament off the back of some decent performances including 13th at the US PGA and ninth in last week’s Wyndham Championship.

Reed boasts three top six finishes in his last six appearances at TPC Boston and loves the big occasion. A major winner, two WGC titles and two FedEx Cup Playoff titles show just how much he steps up on the biggest stage.
Top 20 finish – Louis Oosthuizen 11/4
My eye was immediately drawn to the South African in the top 20 market. He finished behind Rory McIlroy in his debut at TPC Boston, and in his four subsequent visits, has never finished worse than 31st.
That kind of course form stacks up, and Oosthuizen is driving the ball particularly sweetly. He is coming into the tournament off a sixth-place finish at the St. Jude Invitational and a solid, if unspectacular, top 35 finish at the PGA Championship.
