Key head-to-head matchups at U.S. Open
With the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach set to begin Thursday, here are some key head-to-head matchups.
Rory McIlroy (-105) vs. Dustin Johnson (-115)
McIlroy heads to Pebble Beach on fire. He shot 61 in the final round at the Canadian Open, but that doesn't make him a lock against Dustin Johnson. Johnson finished second at both the Masters and the PGA Championship. He also won back-to-back Pebble Beach Pro-Ams in 2009-2010.Rory McIIroy (-170) vs. Tiger Woods (+140)
Tiger played poorly and missed the cut at the PGA, but bounced back for a top 10 finish at the Memorial. More importantly? Tiger excels at Pebble Beach. He won the Pro-Am in 2000 and always seems to finish near the top of the leaderboard.Dustin Johnson (-140) vs. Brooks Koepka (+115)
Considering how well Johnson has performed in Majors this year and how well he plays Pebble Beach, this is a much tighter head-to-head than what the odds indicate.Tiger Woods (+110) vs. Patrick Cantlay (-110)
The reason Cantlay is the favorite over Tiger is because he heads into the U.S. Open playing exceptionally well. Cantlay won the Memorial and finished third at the PGA.Jason Day (-160) vs. Francesco Molinari (+130)
Day is favored because he plays well at Pebble Beach. Day shot 14-under at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in 2018 and a 13-under at the tournament this year.[download id="78409"]
