Best Prop Bets for the 2019 Masters
First-Round Leader
Only four golfers offer odds of +2000 or less to lead after the first round: Rory McIlroy +1150, Dustin Johnson +1550, Justin Rose +1750, and Tiger Woods +2000. Of the four favorites, Rory is a solid play. He shot a 69 in the first round last year and should be ready for a similar performance Thursday.
The underdog to back to lead after Round 1 is Tony Finau. Offering +3800 odds, Finau shot 68 on Thursday last year before he imploded in the second and third rounds.
Pick: Rory McIlroy +1150
Underdog pick: Tony Finau +3800
Top Five Finish
McIlroy tied for fifth last year and there is a good chance he finishes in the top five again, but his +130 BetAmerica odds are too low, even if we’re looking for a favorite. Bubba Watson also tied for fifth last year and he’s offering +600 odds. Bubba is the player to back if you’re looking for chalk.
The underdog pick in this prop has to be Cameron Smith at +1350. He finished tied for fifth, just like Rory and Bubba last year. However, he offers much better odds than either one of those players to finish in the top five again.
Pick: Bubba Watson +600
Underdog pick: Cameron Smith +1350
Top 10 Finish
We can make Cameron Smith our chalk bet at +650 to finish in the top 10 at the 2019 Masters. Smith hovered around par for the first three rounds before blowing out a 66 in the final round last year. Hopefully he’ll be more consistent in each round this year. That would most definitely put him in the top 10.
Let’s make Danny Willett the dog pick at +1350. The 2016 Masters winner hasn’t hit the ball particularly well this year, but he has made the cut in five of the nine tournaments he's played. He could surprise.
Pick: Cameron Smith +650
Underdog pick: Danny Willett +1350
Top European
Rory is the safe choice at +225, but Spaniard Jon Rahm deserves a long look. He shot 11-under at the 2018 Masters, good enough for fourth place, and has hit he ball well (he finished 12th at The Players Championship and sixth at the Valspar Championship). Rahm can get it done at +525.
It’s tough to find an underdog. It might be wise to land on Sergio Garcia at +1750. He won the Masters in 2017 and although he missed the cut at Augusta last year, he’s had a couple of bright spots this year, with a sixth at the WGC-Mexico and a ninth at the Honda Classic. Sergio could come alive at Augusta.
Pick: John Rahm +525
Underdog pick: Sergio Garcia +1750
Top American
Jordan Spieth isn’t hitting the ball well at all, but he always picks up his game at the Masters. Spieth shot 13-under at the 2018 Masters. That was good enough for a third-place finish. The best part? He offers +825 odds on BetAmerica to be the top American player.
Tony Finau finished a tied for 10th at last year’s Masters. He could definitely improve off that finish. He could surprise at +1900 odds.
Pick: Jordan Spieth +825
Underdog pick: Tony Finau +1900
