North Carolina Tar Heels (+9.0) vs VIRGINIA CAVALIERS (Saturday 12:20 p.m. ET)
Similar to Purdue, Virginia (-9.0) has made huge strides since season started. They’ve arguably developed into the second-best team in ACC, narrowly defeating Miami two weeks back and posting a convincing win at Duke last week, and it’s time to take care of business against an opponent that exits a tough OT loss and plays very little defense. Cavaliers defense playing terrific and QB Bryce Perkins quietly thriving; he’s a dangerous passer and runner. I like Virginia’s chances to win the Coastal Division (Clemson in the Atlantic). North Carolina went down fighting in several close losses but season has gotten away from them at 1-5 SU. And Heels' offense, which has scored 19 or less in four games, won’t get much going against this fierce defensive front. The defense has been especially putrid in last three away tilts, surrendering 42 points per game, and Carolina 1-3 ATS on the road. Look for a blowout home win.
Week 9 College Football Free Picks – Bet Virginia -9 over North Carolina!
TCU Horned Frogs (-13.5) vs KANSAS JAYHAWKS (Saturday 3 p.m. ET)
Kansas (+13.5) should not be receiving this many points at home against a declining foe; they possess the weapons to keep it close and have an upset chance against an opponent they play well (Kansas 5-1 ATS in last six meetings). Jayhawks almost beat TCU for three consecutive years (2014-16), losing by less than a TD in the last two home match-ups, and will be motivated for revenge after getting blown out 43-0 last year. Freshman RB Pooka Williams Jr. developing into a fine player, averaging 103 yards per game, and QB Bender has earned full-time job by being more efficient, tossing six TDs and only one interception this year (10 interceptions last year). The Jayhawks better than recent years and will appreciate getting home after playing three of the last four on the road, including a fine effort at West Virginia. Texas Christian is a far cry from past seasons; this is clearly a rebuilding year for proud Horned Frogs program. TCU’s offense has fallen into the crapper during a recent three-game home streak, struggling to score against Iowa St and Texas Tech and getting obliterated by Oklahoma, and they enter game with 3-4 SU (1-3 conference) mark. Frogs played two ineffective QBs last week, with Collins struggling in starter’s role, and they’re stuck with Collins due to Robinson being lost to injury. TCU is still good defensively but it won’t be enough to cover against Kansas, who is 8-0 ATS in last eight home games as a 12+ point underdog vs teams with less than a .600 record.
Week 9 College Football Free Picks – Bet Kansas +13.5 over TCU!
South Florida Bulls (-7.0) vs HOUSTON COUGARS (Saturday 3:30 p.m. ET))
Houston (-7.0) has scored at least 41 points in every game and enters this match-up at a sneaky 6-1 SU, the only loss coming in a shoot-out against Texas Tech. Cougars enter on four-game win streak (3-1 ATS), with a 3-0 record in their division, and this represents the biggest game remaining on their schedule. They’re motivated to face the 21st-ranked Bulls at home and will open a big lead in the 1st half. South Florida enters unbeaten at 7-0 and runs the ball effectively (15th nationally). The ball-control attack has averaged 505 yards per game (11th nationally) against a weak schedule and their propensity for slow starts allowed Tulsa, Connecticut and East Carolina to stay close before the Bulls squeaked by late. South Florida won’t be able to match points with Houston. Bulls have been kind to play-against bettors, recording a 1-4 ATS mark in last four games; 1-7 ATS in last eight conference tilts; and 3-7 ATS in last 10 games. Houston good enough to expose an uneven South Florida that is not playing at a high level. Lay the points!
Week 9 College Football Free Picks – Bet Houston -7.0 over South Florida!
Washington State Cougars (+3) vs STANFORD CARDINAL (Saturday 7 p.m. ET)
Washington State (+3) improved to 7-0 ATS this season with impressive two-touchdown win over Oregon. Cougars are the better team in this match-up. HC Leach has offense rolling, with QB Minshew excelling and RB Williams starting to come on for the nation’s 2nd-ranked passing and 16th overall offense, and they’ve improved since losing a tough one at USC (39-36) earlier this season. At 3-1 in conference, Washington State still has viable chance to win division and they’ll be looking to make a statement against Stanford’s struggling offense. Cardinal held on last week to narrowly beat Arizona State, who had scored 21 points or less in five games, but Cardinal defense way down this season as they’ve leaked like a sieve, allowing an average of 36 points per game in the three previous contests. Stanford hasn’t scored more than 21 points in over than a month with RB Love (21 yards on 11 carries last week) severely hampered by an ankle injury, and won’t be able to match points with this opponent. Washington State 3-0 ATS in last three meetings and will win straight up. We’ll take the points!
