NCAAF Week 9 rankings- Purdue Pounds No.2 Ohio State
Three Top-10 teams had a bye week, so there was little chance we would see four Top-10 teams lose for the second straight week, or five Top-15 teams stumble like we witnessed two weeks ago. But Purdue made sure another upset was in order on Oct. 21, as the Boilermakers beat the No. 2-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, 49-20. Purdue was a 13-point underdog and handed Ohio State its first loss of the season, sending the Buckeyes bailing out of the Top-10 in NCAAF Week 9 rankings.
The college football AP and Coaches polls had two teams move up into the Top-5, as both LSU and Michigan beat ranked teams while showing its defensive strength. LSU beat Mississippi State 19-3 and Michigan stopped the Spartans of Michigan State, 21-7. In total, six top-25 teams lost in Week 8, and these are reflected in the NCAAF Week 9 rankings where the October shakedown continued.
