NCAAF Week 12 Pac-12 Football Pick - Arizona at Washington State
The push towards the college football playoff and a Pac-12 title continues for the Washington State Cougars (9-1), but the Arizona Wildcats are rested and ready off their bye to try and pull the upset in Pullman. As the No. 8 team in the rankings, the Cougars continue their somewhat unexpected surge and need a lot of help to leapfrog LSU, Oklahoma or Georgia. Posting big wins, and covering as a Week 12 Pac-12 football pick against the spread, would most certainly help garner favor.
Washington State is not only 9-1 this season, but also 9-1 ATS after burying the Buffalos in Colorado last week 31-7. The Cougars defense is significantly improved this year with their new defensive coordinator, allowing 317 yards per game vs FBS foes to rank top-15 in the country. This is also Washington State's best scoring defense in the last 15 years allowing 21.9 points per game against FBS opponents. Washington State’s defense allows nearly 100 yards less than Arizona, and getting a visitor from the desert to travel to remote Pullman is a real advantage for the Cougars, who are 15-5 ATS in their last 20 home games at Martin Stadium.
Arizona’s 4-2-5 base defense will allow them to load up more defensive backs into coverage and limit yards after catch, and the extra week of prep is an advantage if the coaches prepare the players properly. Still, it’s not often you find a top-10 team this late in the season laying 10 points or less against a .500 team, especially when the team is 29-14 ATS the last four seasons under the head coach. Mike Leach and the Cougars remain undervalued, and they will want to keep the momentum and solid play going into next week’s first place showdown and rivalry game against Washington. Don’t think the Wildcats have enough to slow the Cougars, even with the potential look-ahead looming for Washington State.

Scheduling dynamics are in place as Arizona enters off their bye week playing their best ball of the season following a pair of home wins over over Colorado and Oregon, the latter of which they blew out 44-15 as a 7-point underdog. The Wildcats are 4-3 in Pac-12 play and still have a shot to win the South division and advance to the Pac-12 championship as three teams have three losses at the top; Utah (5-3), Arizona State (4-3) and Arizona (4-3). A better goal might be to win one of their two remaining games and become bowl eligible, but the task at hand against Washington State looks too tough even with the situational advantage for Arizona.Washington State is not only 9-1 this season, but also 9-1 ATS after burying the Buffalos in Colorado last week 31-7.
