NCAAF Rankings – 4 More Top Teams Lose

October is shakedown month in college football. The pretenders are separated from the contenders as teams meet stronger competition in conference play, and it has shown in the first two weeks of October. The AP and Coaches polls see teams move up, out and into the Top-10 and Top-25 NCAAF rankings.
One week after five Top-15 teams lost, four more teams were beaten on Saturday, October 13th and all four of them fell out of the AP Top-10.
Let’s recap: Oct. 6 top ranked teams that that lost – all were betting favorites, and three teams suffered its first loss of the season. These teams included LSU, Oklahoma and Kentucky.
NCAAF Rankings Shakedown from Week 6 No. 5 LSU lost to No. 22 Florida, 27-19 No. 7 Oklahoma lost to No. 19 Texas, 48-45 No. 8 Auburn lost to Mississippi State, 23-9 No. 13 Kentucky lost to Texas A&M, 20-14 in overtime No. 14 Stanford lost to Utah, 40-21
But that shakedown you saw on Saturday, Oct. 13 caused even more shuffling in the NCAAF rankings. Competitive contests and upsets continue as teams push for conference titles, bowl games and the college football playoff.
Here’s the Top-10 teams that suffered their losses in Week 7, all as betting favorites. No. 2 Georgia (-7) lost to No. 13 LSU, 36-16 No. 6 West Virginia (-6.5) lost to Iowa State, 30-14 No. 7 Washington (-3.5) lost to Oregon, 30-27 in overtime No. 8 Penn State (-14) lost to Michigan State, 21-17
The Georgia Bulldogs couldn't afford a loss this season, but were dominated by LSU. Their chances of making the playoffs are now dependent on whether or not other ranked teams experience massive upsets. West Virginia was also upended on Saturday as Heisman candidate Will Grier was limited to just 100 passing yards on the day.
Other Top-25 losers from Week 7 that lost ground in the NCAAF rankings: No. 15 Wisconsin lost to No. 12 Michigan, 38-13 No. 16 Miami lost to Virginia, 16-13 No. 19 Colorado lost to USC, 31-20 No. 21 Auburn lost to Tennessee, 30-24*
The Tigers are the first preseason Top-10 team to fall out of the Top-25. Michigan jumps up to No. 6, right behind No. 5 LSU.
The current top 4 teams for the college football playoff chase is clear: 1 Alabama Crimson Tide(7-0) 2. Clemson Tigers (6-0) 3. Ohio State Buckeyes (7-0) 4. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (7-0)
The college football playoff committee has demonstrated that it will reward teams with wins over Top-25 teams in the final AP Poll, along with wins over bowl teams, dominant wins, road wins and those teams playing in the Power 5 conferences or a strong schedule like Notre Dame plays. Undefeated teams from the American Athletic Conference include Central Florida (6-0), South Florida (6-0) and Cincinnati (6-0). Those three will be left out of the playoff even if undefeated, and all three play each other in November, which could lead to yet another NCAAF rankings shakedown. North Carolina State (5-0) from the ACC is the only other undefeated team, and the Wolfpack get their toughest test this week playing at Clemson as a 16-point underdog.
