College Football Week 3 betting kicks off this Thursday, Sep. 13 when the Boston College Eagles travel to battle ACC rival Wake Forest as a -5.5 favorite. Boston College Eagles -5.5 at Wake Forest Demon Deacons (Thursday, Sep. 13 at 7:30pm ET)

Based on trends, Wake Forest has no shot against Boston College: Eagles are 10-1-1 ATS in their last 12 games overall, 13-3 ATS in their last 16 road games versus a team with a winning record, and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games. But, one trend points to a Wake Forest ATS victory. The Demon Deacons are 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings.

That single trend could trump all of BC’s great trends because the Eagles have looked great beating a couple of truly bad teams, UMass and Holy Cross. Beating Holy Cross 62-14 doesn’t impress me as much as beating Wake Forest whooping Tulane 23-17.

Truth is, we don’t know which team is better in this matchup. When in doubt, I take the points.

College Football Week 3 Betting Picks: Wake Forest +5.5

Georgia State Panthers at Memphis Tigers -27.5 (Friday, Sep. 14 at 7:00pm ET)

Memphis gets what looks like another freebie on Friday night when they battle the Georgia State Panthers. The Tigers ran into a tough Navy squad in their last game, falling 21-22 as a -7.0 favorite while North Carolina State beat Georgia State pretty soundly with an end score of 41-7. Memphis is nowhere near as good of a team as NC State, but won’t matter because the hot trends point to a Memphis win and cover. I hate laying so many points, but I can’t ignore Memphis’s 4-1-1 ATS record in their last 6 home games, nor their 7-3-1 ATS record in their last 11 games overall.

Maybe, if Memphis didn’t have to prove something in this one after the losing to Navy, I’d back the Panthers, but getting upset as a favorite last weekend should motivate the Tigers. I’m laying the points in this matchup.
