College Football Week 2 SEC Betting Action
by Fairway Jay
If you're looking for some of the top teams to wager on in the country, search no further than college football Week 2 SEC betting matchups, where the strongest conference in the country has submitted seven AP Top-25 teams. Following an opening week in which the SEC went 13-1 SU and 10-4 ATS, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) made their case again as the nation’s top grouping, despite the push and media hype surrounding the Big Ten entering the season.College Football Week 2 SEC Betting Matchups #1 Alabama -36.0 vs. Arkansas State KSU Wildcats vs. #18 Mississippi State -7.0 #24 South Carolina vs. #3 Georgia -10.5 Alabama State vs. #7 Auburn (no line) #25 Florida -13.5 vs. Kentucky Southern Louisiana vs. #11 LSU (no line)
Some of these games are so prohibitive that oddsmakers aren't even setting lines for them. So let’s take a look at the two most competitively lined games involving SEC teams in Week 2.
#18Mississippi State -8.0 at Kansas State– Wise guys are lining up with head coach Bill Snyder’s Wildcats as home ‘Dog, as K-State is 87-49 ATS in Snyder’s career at home. The ‘Cats clawed their way to a 27-24 win last week over FCS South Dakota Coyotes, and the annual strong special teams chipped-in a punt return TD in the fourth quarter. New offensive coordinator for K-State this season, and the Wildcats failed to score an offensive TD until the 4thquarter last week. Mississippi State has a new head coach Joe Moorhead, who was the offensive coordinator at Penn State last season and knows how to put together plays and run an offense. Not confident enough in Wildcats yet facing a stronger SEC team despite this incredible stat: K-State coach Snyder is 37-3 SU at home when his team is undefeated and facing non-conference opponents, and only one of those losses was by more than 7 points. Remember, trends don’t pay the rent.
#3Georgia -10.0 at South Carolina– Big game of the week in college football Week 2 SEC betting. Georgia travels for SEC opener after cakewalk in opening week 45-0 victory over Austin Peay. The Bulldogs beat the Gamecocks last season 24-10 as more than a 3 TD favorite, but South Carolina is stronger this season and has an up-tempo and more potent offensive attack as outlined in my SEC preview of the Gamecocks. South Carolina QB Jake Bentley fired 4 TD passes in last week’s 49-15 crushing of Coastal Carolina, but this is the big game in Columbia that the SC players have wanted most this season. South Carolina is 5-1 ATS playing with revenge recently, and the Gamecocks were 7-7-1 ATS last season as a disrespected ‘Dog. We anticipate the ‘Cocks getting excited and rising to the occasion against a top-ranked SEC partner.
