College Football Expert Picks for Week 10 Betting
Teams are entering the final month of the 2024 college football regular season, and YouBet has identified four games to boost the bankroll in Week 10. All lines courtesy of BetMGM; times listed as Eastern.
Minnesota at Illinois (12 p.m.): Minnesota
Minnesota appears much improved in the second half of the season, defeating USC three weeks ago and throttling Maryland last week, jumping out to a 31-3 lead in the second quarter. Max Brosmer (26-for-33 for 320 yards and four touchdowns last week) and top receiver Daniel Jackson (nine catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns) enter in top form, and the opportunistic Golden Gophers take care of the football, posting a +7 turnover margin over the last three games with only one turnover.
Illinois gave the ball away twice during a listless performance against Oregon last week, falling behind 35-3 by halftime. And this matchup does not favor the Illini, who struggle to stop teams on third downs (116th nationally) and face a Minnesota offense that ranks 17th in third-down conversions (57%).
Virginia Tech at Syracuse (12 p.m.): Virginia Tech
After a shaky 2-3 start, Virginia Tech enters on the upswing, defeating its last three opponents by a combined 94-34 margin. The Hokies feature a powerful ground game (195.5 rushing yards per game), and top running back Bhayshul Tuten and left tackle Xavier Chaplin are both probable after being sidelined during last week’s easy win over Georgia Tech.
Despite an overall 5-2 record, Syracuse enters on the decline, surrendering 102 points over the last three games. The Orange managed to narrowly escape North Carolina St. and UNLV, but they exit an atrocious performance at Pitt, falling behind 31-0 at halftime. Kyle McCord, who drives Syracuse’s pass-oriented offense, had five interceptions, including a staggering three pick-6s, and the Orange appear to be a mess presently.
Indiana at Michigan St. (3:30 p.m.): Michigan St.
Kurtis Rourke directed a dynamic offense over the first eight weeks of the season, and while Indiana continued to win comfortably without its star quarterback last week, it logged only a meager 312 total yards while being outgained by Washington, which has been terrible in Big Ten road games and put itself in a quick hole with a pair of first-half turnovers.
Rourke had surgery on his thumb on Oct. 21 and Indiana hopes to have him back in Week 10, but it will be fair to question his effectiveness against a surging Michigan St. that defeated Iowa 32-20 in its last home game. The Spartans exit a one-score loss at Michigan, limiting their bitter rival to 265 total yards, and their formidable pass defense (33rd-ranked nationally) has already faced the high-scoring attacks of Ohio St. and Oregon.
This is a look-ahead spot for 8-0 Indiana, which hosts Michigan next week and travels to Ohio St. in Week 12, and the points are attractive with better-than-expected Michigan St.
Louisville at Clemson (7:30 p.m.): Louisville
Turnovers have exacted a serious toll upon 5-3 Louisville, which has had a legitimate chance to win every game if the Cardinals protected the football. But don’t underestimate head coach Jeff Brohm’s offense, which put 45 on Miami in a one-score loss two weeks ago, and quarterback Tyler Shough had 332 passing yards and star receiver Ja’Corey Brooks had eight catches for 120 yards in a comeback win over Boston College last week. Brooks has at least 100 receiving yards in three of the last four games.
Clemson is in a look-ahead spot, with important road tests at Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh in the next two weeks, and it’s fair to question its pass defense after allowing Virginia to score 31 points in last week’s home win. The Tigers have allowed an average of 26.7 points in three ACC home games, and Louisville easily will be the most dynamic attack they’ve faced.
In a matchup between a pair of high-scoring offenses, the points are attractive.
