College football: Five games to bet for Week 1

College football's opening weekend may offer the most opportunity of any week on the calendar. Wagering volumes and limits are so high that a strong opinion or two can net you handsome profits, before the rest of the market realizes the abilities of a team and adjusts accordingly in future weeks. Let's take a look at five games and teams that offer value for Week 1.

UCLA +3 at Cincinnati, Aug. 29

Chip Kelly took his shot at revolutionizing the NFL when he left Oregon and instituted his fast-paced offense at the professional level, but now he's back in the Pac-12. This is where he belongs, and we may see a powerhouse emerging from the rubble if Kelly can revitalize the recruiting lines he once had and gets the players already in the program to buy in. If UCLA is coming back in a big way, it starts on the road in 2019.

Nebraska -35 vs. South Alabama, Aug. 31

One of the more divisive teams coming into this season is Nebraska. Some pundits are taking them to win the Big Ten West and compete for the conference title, while others think they are fool's gold that will struggle without the athletes Scott Frost had at his disposal at both Oregon and Central Florida. Regardless of the answer, Adrian Martinez and this system will rack up serious points against mediocre defenses—like South Alabama's. Turn on the hype machine after Week 1 and let later games determine if it's warranted.

Kentucky -12 vs. Toledo, Aug. 31

Mark Stoops is a hard-nosed coach who has changed the culture at Kentucky and is now changing the end-of-year records. He will have UK ready to dominate this game.

Louisiana Tech +21 vs. Texas, Aug. 31

Coming off a Sugar Bowl beat down of Georgia, Texas has high hopes for this year. The problem is the Longhorns lost a ton of defensive and offensive line starters and there will be growing pains. This is a lot of points to lay for a new roster.

South Carolina -7 vs. North Carolina, Aug. 31

This will be a fun one. In what should feel like an end-of-season rivalry game, I expect South Carolina to overpower a Tarheels team that will still be struggling to find its way with new coach Mack Brown. The Gamecocks don't have a lot of wins on the schedule, so they will need to capitalize on the ones they are favored in.
