Army Black Knights Favored To Beat Navy
One of the most important traditions in college football takes place on Saturday, December 8th when the Navy Midshipmen and Army Black Knights clash on Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Simply called the Army-Navy Game, the Black Knights and Midshipmen have thrown down almost every year since 1899. The first ever Army-Navy Game took place in 1890. All told, the two squads have battled 118 times with Navy winning 60, Army losing 51, and the teams tying 7 times.
No matter what else happens during the college football season, it’s not a successful season if the Black Knights don’t beat the Midshipmen and vice versa. That’s how important it is to the students at both West Point and the Unites States Naval Academy in Annapolis. Expect Army, the favored squad, to lay everything on the line even though they play in the Military Bowl later this year. Expect Navy to do what it can to send Army to the Military Bowl wondering how they couldn’t beat their rivals.
The wrinkle here is that Navy can be considered battle-tested, and they’ll be ready for Army’s effective rushing attack. Navy believes that preparedness will send them to the winner’s circle over their rivals.
The ground attack’s the main reason the Black Knight’s average 30.8 points per. But, Army isn’t one dimensional. Quarterback Kelvin Hopkins Jr. will throw if he must while the Knights allow less than 19 points per.
Navy must stop Army’s ground attack. Army doesn’t believe the Midshipmen can. If Army has success on the ground, they might provide a rare blowout victory in the ultimate rivalry game in college football.
The Black Knights are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 on grass, 5-1 ATS in their last 6 in December and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 following a bye. Although the Midshipmen ended their season covering in 3 straight, they’re 1-4 ATS in their last 5 on grass, 0-4 in the last 4 outside of the AAC, and 2-6 ATS versus a team with a winning record.
Last season, these two played to a 14-13 Army win. Navy’s style is to battle in high-scoring games while Army prefers to slow it down and limit possessions. That should help the Black Knights on Saturday. Army will find a way to beat Navy by at least 10 points. They’re the winners both SU and ATS in the only college football game this week.

Unlike Army, Navy isn’t an Independent Division 1 college football team. The Naval Academy plays in the underrated American Athletic Conference where well-coached squads like Memphis, Central Florida, Temple, South Florida, Cincinnati and Houston play. Navy hopes that roughing it through a tough AAC schedule where they beat Memphis and covered in losses to UCF and Tulane, will set them up for success versus Army. The wrinkle here is that Navy can be considered battle-tested, and they’ll be ready for Army’s effective rushing attack. Army Looks To Immobilize the Midshipmen

Army’s ground game has been so effective this season that it took Oklahoma overtime to beat the Knights.
