AAC Week 14 picks: Memphis vs. Tulane & Tulsa vs. Navy
COVID-19 cancellations have become a regular occurrence across the college football landscape, but none more so than at Houston. The Cougars were forced to cancel games in three straight weeks, and their scheduled game against SMU had already been postponed once. The recent developments leave us a little light on our AAC picks, but that doesn’t mean we’re not going to predict this week’s outcomes.
Join us as now we dive into Memphis vs. Tulane and Tulsa vs. Navy.
Memphis vs. Tulane
The Memphis Tigers have had an exceptional year, now 4-2 despite being sidelined by COVID-19 for almost a month at the start of the season. Even at their lowest of lows, when things weren’t going well, they were still scoring points. Then Thanksgiving weekend happened.
Memphis only mustered 12 first downs against Navy in a game that featured two first quarter touchdowns, then absolutely nothing until the Tigers kicked the game-winning field goal in the fourth quarter. Memphis failed to establish any sort of run game in the 10-7 victory, averaging only 2.9 yards per carry, while quarterback Brady White completed just 56% of his passes.

The Tigers will take on a Tulane team that is two weeks removed from a heartbreaking double-overtime loss to Tulsa, where the Golden Hurricane completed a game-tying Hail Mary pass with zeroes on the clock in regulation. Even though they might be rusty, Tulane should be hungry to move on from the bad loss.
The Green Wave have home field advantage and a defense far superior to Navy’s. Of course, Memphis can’t play as badly as they did a week ago, but Tulane’s defense should give them enough fits to come away with a win that can cover the small spread.
Pick: Tulane -1.5
#22 Tulsa vs. Navy
What can we make of this Navy football team? You really never know what you’re going to get week to week. After a month away from football, they came prepared to play against a talented Memphis team. It’s apparent that the Midshipmen are using the home stretch of this season to make a statement.

Navy took a risk by playing BYU on Labor Day weekend without having even tackled in practice. They were humiliated, yet never quit, coming back from a 24-point deficit the following week. Now a Top 25 matchup awaits before they play in college football’s greatest rivalry.
ESPN’s FPI only gives Navy a 16% chance to win. The SP+ ratings predicts Navy will lose by 15 points. Throw the numbers out the window! This is a resilient Navy team that has a little bit of momentum. They may come up short, but they are going down swinging in a knock down, drag ‘em out game in Annapolis.
Pick: Navy +12.5
