Tulane upset Memphis early on in the season well before the Tigers lost to Central Florida in the AAC Championship. The Green Wave also beat South Florida, Navy, and Tulsa this season. After the first month, it didn’t look like Louisiana had any shot at grabbing a bowl bid. The Ragin’ Cajuns started the season losing 3-of-4. The only win happened against Division II Grambling in Week 1.
The two losses to Mississippi State and Alabama are forgivable, but dropping a game straight up to Coastal Carolina at home was downright awful. Louisiana bounced out of the loss to win 6-of-9.
Some of the bigger wins were against rival UL-Monroe and against top Sun Belt rival Arkansas State. The Cajuns also beat New Mexico State and Georgia State, who went 6-2 in the Sun Belt Conference.
The late season surge should set up Louisiana against Tulane in the Cure Bowl. If the Ragin’ Cajuns can get things going early, they might have a shot at the straight up win.
