Wednesday's NCAAB Free Picks - Virginia Laying Double-Digits On The Road

Although the AP Poll has Duke ranked number one, the Coaches Poll has Blue Devils’ rival Virginia ranked first. Undefeated at 13-0, the Virginia Cavaliers travel to Boston to take on the BC Eagles on Wednesday, Jan. 9. This might be the season UVA breaks through with a national title. So far, they’ve dominated behind the best defense in college basketball. Virginia will show up as a massive favorite on Wednesday night, though. Can Boston College keep it closer than the spread, or is it worth laying the points with the top ranked Cavaliers in NCAAB free picks?

Also in action on Wednesday are a couple of Top-10 ranked teams in the Auburn Tigers and Virginia Tech Hokies. The Tigers head to Mississippi to take on the rival Rebels while the Hokies battle Georgia Tech.

Auburn (11-2) remains ranked in the Top-10, but that could change after Wednesday night. The Tigers face an 11-2 Ole Miss team. At this point in the season, rankings must be taken with a grain of salt. Unless you’re the Duke Blue Devils or Virginia Cavaliers, there’s a chance you could lose any time you step onto the court.

Duke and Virginia are the two top teams in the nation, but some of the other teams in the ACC aren’t too bad either. VA Tech is 13-1. Their only loss this season happened on the road against Penn State. The Nittany Lions barely beat them 63-62.

Some trends point to Virginia Tech covering as a road favorite. The Hokies are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games, 7-1 ATS in their last 8 following an ATS loss, and the favorite is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings.

Georgia Tech could hang with the Hokies. The Yellow Jackets are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 against the ACC and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 versus a team with a winning SU record. The home team should play hard enough to keep this close.

At home, Boston College is 2-7 ATS. The Eagles are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 at home. No Cavaliers’ opponent has figured out UVA’s defense. Boston College won’t on Wednesday night. The nice part about Virginia this year? Their offense has no problem blowing up the scoreboard in lopsided wins.

Although Marquette has a real shot based on stats, they’re not a great traveling team. The Blue Jays get the nod.
