Although there are no guarantees during March basketball games, where upsets are commonplace, the odds are heavily in favor of at least one team scoring 50 points during the tournament's opening weekend.
All 60 teams playing on Saturday and Sunday average over 65 points per game, and nine squads average over 80 points per contest. Even Hartford, the lowest scoring team in the tournament, managed to score 50 points or more in all 23 of its games this season.

Still not convinced? Abilene Christian, Fairleigh Dickinson, and Old Dominion were the only teams that scored fewer than 50 points in their first round games in 2019, the last time the NCAA Tournament was held. And although the Wildcats, Knights, and Monarchs put up duds, their opponents scored 60 points or more in those one-sided clashes.
The first round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament tips off at 12 p.m. ET on Friday, March 19, and continues all day on Saturday, March 20. Visit TwinSpires Sports today to wager on a wide variety of college basketball markets before the opening game gets underway.
