NCAAB Wednesday Preview - #10 LSU Tests The Swamp
The Marquette Golden Eagles look to end a 2-game losing streak versus Seton Hall while top 10 ranked LSU hopes for a revenge win over tough Florida in Gainesville.
Check out analysis on those two matchups as well as analysis on a few other of Wednesday’s top games![Wednesday, March 6]
#15 Marquette Golden Eagles -2.0 at Seton Hall Pirates (6:30pm ET)
Marquette will tip-off the road favorites, but they won’t be favored by much. Not after losing a couple straight to Villanova and Creighton. The loss to Nova was to be expected even though the Golden Eagles had their chances in that matchup. But, Creighton? Marquette bombed 60-66 as a -7.5 home favorite.Markus Howard, a 5-foot-11 guard, is one of the top players at his position. For all his greatness, he tends to push too much, though. He committed 7 turnovers in the Villanova loss. He committed 6 against Creighton. In the 4-point win over Seton Hall back on Jan. 12, he had 5 turnovers.
The Pirates’ slide is worse, 3 losses in a row, but before the upset loss to Xavier on Feb. 20, Seton Hall had gone 4-0 ATS and SU. The underdog is 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings while Marquette is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 after a straight up loss. Signs point to the Pirates taking this on the moneyline.
NCAAB Free Pick: Seton Hall +2.0 or ML
#10 LSU Tigers PK at Florida Gators (7:00pm ET)
The SEC Tournament should be one of the most interesting to watch next week because LSU has suddenly become a legit NCAA Tournament 1-seed contender. The Tigers ride a 3-game win streak into their battle with Florida on Wednesday night. The wins, over Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Alabama, were all quality victories. Tremont Waters missed a couple of the games with an illness. That made the victories even more impressive. The Gators, though, upset LSU in Baton Rouge in the last matchup. Florida needs another impressive win to ensure an NCAA Tournament bid. They most likely won’t get it tonight.
The Gators are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 following a straight up loss, 0-8 ATS in their last 8 home games, and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games overall. The Tigers are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 on the road, and 12-4 ATS in their last 16 overall. With LSU hitting the road, they are one of my top plays of the night.
NCAAB Free Pick: LSU PK
#25 Iowa State Cyclones -7.0 at West Virginia Mountaineers (7:00pm ET)
Iowa State’s season hasn’t yet fallen off a cliff, but it could. With a couple of games left, the Cyclones are 20-9. They’re ranked. It’s hard to understand why because they’ve gone 1-3 SU in their last 4. The Cyclones are also 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall.Luckily, they battle one of the worst teams in the Big 12 on Wednesday night. West Virginia is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 versus a team with a wining percentage above .600, 3-8 ATS in their last 11 overall, and 6-13-1 ATS in their last 20 home games. Plus, the Cyclones beat the Mountaineers 93-68 in the first matchup. The Cyclones get back on track with a win and cover.
NCAAB Free Pick: Iowa State -7.0
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at NC State Wolfpack -11.0 (9:00pm ET)
Neither team is ranked, but this is an important game for NC State. The Wolfpack have a 20-9 record. If they win their final couple of regular season games and lose deep in the ACC Tournament, they should garner a bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Wolfpack face a team that they have no excuses against.NC State is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 overall. Not only that, but they’ve gone 5-2 SU and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games. The Wolfpack even upset Syracuse 73-58 on Feb. 13 and covered in a loss to Duke on Feb. 16.
But, signs point to NC State struggling on March 6. The Yellow Jackets are 4-1-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings overall and 4-1-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings in NC State. Georgia Tech’s also 7-4 ATS on the road while there’s a big chance NC State’s overplayed here. It makes sense to take the points in this matchup.
NCAAB Free Pick: Georgia Tech +11.0
Oklahoma State Cowboys at Baylor Bears -8.5 (9:00pm ET)
Here’s another game between unranked teams where a victory by the home team could lead to an NCAA Tournament bid. Oklahoma State, at 10-19, has no shot at making the tournament. Baylor, at 19-10, could, and frankly March Madness betting is more fun when they're involved. The Bears had been on a 3-game straight up win streak before losing 60-66 to Kansas State in their last. Baylor’s been awful against the spread, though. They’re 1-5-2 ATS in their last 8.
Although the Bears have been terrible against the spread, the trends say they cover on March 6. Baylor is 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 games following a straight up loss and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games versus a team with a losing straight up record. The Cowboys are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following an against the spread victory. They’re also 2-9-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings in Baylor. The Bears roll to an easy win and cover.
NCAAB Free Pick: Baylor ATS
