Although there are no guarantees during the NCAA Tournament, where upsets are commonplace, the odds are heavily in favor of at least one team hitting a shot from the charity stripe during the event’s second weekend.
It helps, of course, that two of the top 10 most prolific free throw shooting teams in the nation are still alive after the second round. Gonzaga has averaged 16.4 made free throws per game this season, and Arkansas (15.8) isn’t far behind in successful trips to the line.
Free Throws Made
Team | GM | FT | FTA |
---|
Arkansas | 29 | 459 | 622 |
Gonzaga | 27 | 445 | 608 |
The Zags looked especially sharp on Saturday in their 98-55 dismantling of Norfolk State, as they hit 16 of their 18 free throw attempts. They struck gold from the line again on Monday, when they connected on 23 of their 26 free throw attempts in a breezy 87-71 victory over Oklahoma. Gonzaga forward Drew Timme personally hit 12 freebies in the rout.
The next round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament tips off at 2:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 27, and continues on Sunday, March 28. Visit TwinSpires Sports today to wager on a wide variety of college basketball markets before the opening game gets underway.
