Brett Favre Super Bowl Wins, Years, Teams, Scores, Stats, and More
The 2023 season marked Jordan Love's first year as a full-time starter with the Green Bay Packers and it ended with an unexpected run in the postseason punctuated by a narrow loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round.
Much controversy surrounded Love early in his career, after he was drafted by Green Bay in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft while former Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was still in his prime.
The move supposedly rubbed Rodgers the wrong way and contributed to a downfall in his relationship with the Packers front office. But the uneasy dynamic between Rodgers and his future successor, Love, was not something new to Green Bay.
Decades earlier, Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre endured a similar situation, as Rodgers was selected in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft while Favre was deeply entrenched as the starting quarterback in Titletown.
Like Rodgers, Favre brought immense success to the Packers before ultimately fleeing to another team — coincidentally the New York Jets signed both stars following their long tenures in Green Bay.
Below YouBet explores the iconic career of Favre, as we look at his previous Super Bowl wins, appearances, stats, and accolades.
In what year(s) has Brett Favre played in the Super Bowl?
In Favre's fifth season in Green Bay and sixth overall in the NFL, he led the Packers to the franchise's first Super Bowl appearance since 1967, when Green Bay won a second consecutive Super Bowl and third straight NFL championship.
With a large collection of titles dating back to the 1920s, the Packers reached the postseason just six times between 1968 and 1996. It was in Favre's second season that Green Bay ended an 11-year playoff drought, but the Packers were knocked out in the Divisional Round in 1993 and ended their playoff run in the same round the following year. The team got one step closer in 1995 but fell in the conference championship to that year's Super Bowl winner, the Dallas Cowboys.
Then, in 1996, the Packers went 13-3 under head coach Mike Holmgren and tied with the Denver Broncos for the best record in the league. They would go on to win a Super Bowl and returned the following season to the big game.
Which team(s) did Favre defeat in the Super Bowl?
Favre defeated the 11-5 New England Patriots, under Bill Parcells, in Super Bowl XXXI. The Packers held a lead the majority of the matchup and ultimately triumphed 35-21.
The game was highlighted by a 99-yard kickoff return by Desmond Howard, former Heisman Trophy winner at Michigan, who had a total of 154 kick return yards and 90 punt return yards in Super Bowl XXXI. His 244 all-purpose yards tied a Super Bowl record, and Howard became the only player to win Super Bowl MVP based on special teams performance.

Which team(s) did Favre lose to in the Super Bowl?
In the 1997 season, the Packers duplicated their 13-3 regular-season record, this time tying with two other teams — the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers — for the best record in the NFL.
Favre was named NFL MVP for a record third consecutive year and led Green Bay to a 21-7 victory over Tampa Bay in the Divisional Round and a 23-10 win over San Francisco in the NFC Championship Game.
Green Bay met the 12-4 Denver Broncos, guided by third-year coach Mike Shanahan, in Super Bowl XXXII but failed to repeat as champion in one of the bigger upsets in Super Bowl history. The Packers were favored by 11 points entering the game, yet in a back-and-forth battle the Broncos came away with a 31-24 win on a one-yard touchdown with 1:47 left in regulation.
Denver went on to win the Super Bowl the next season as well.
Super Bowl XXXII is the only Super Bowl matchup the Packers have lost.
Brett Favre Super Bowl stats
In Super Bowl XXXI, Favre put in an MVP-caliber performance, recording 246 passing yards and two touchdown passes, including an 81-yard touchdown completion to wide receiver Antonio Freeman, then a record for the longest touchdown catch in a Super Bowl.
Favre completed slightly more than 50% of his passes (14-of-27), adding12 yards on the ground and a rushing touchdown.
In Super Bowl XXXII, Favre went 25-of-42 for 256 yards and three touchdown passes. He also threw an interception and lost a fumble in the first half. Favre would go on to play another 12 years in the NFL but never returned to the big game.
Brett Favre Super Bowl accolades
While he arguably warranted recognition as the Super Bowl MVP in 1996, Favre only ever received the regular-season MVP award. From 1995 to 1997, he took home the coveted NFL honor, the only player in history to three-peat as NFL MVP.
Favre was also named NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 1995 after passing for a career-high 4,413 yards. He also tallied 38 touchdown passes, the second most in his career behind his 1996 total of 39, and he rushed for three scores.
Additionally, Favre is an 11-time Pro Bowler, a four-time NFL passing touchdowns leader (1995-97, 2003) and two-time passing yards leader (1995, 1998). He's both a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Packers Hall of Fame, and his No. 4 jersey number was retired by Green Bay in 2015.
Favre also holds the record for most consecutive starts in the NFL, with 297 (321 if you include the playoffs), along with the record for most career interceptions (336).
