The first big heavyweight fight of 2021 takes place this Saturday, March 27 when Dillian Whyte and Alexander Povetkin face off in their highly anticipated rematch.

Whyte holds all the cards
They say power is the last thing to go, and Whyte learned that lesson in a big way when Povetkin one-shotted him in their first fight. Whyte was in full control and had Povetkin down twice, but instead snatched defeat from the jaws of victory by leaving himself open for Povetkin’s Hail Mary.
Things shouldn’t look much different in the rematch. Whyte was looking every bit a stylistic nightmare for the aging Povetkin, making it very clear that Povetkin was already running low on options ahead of the miracle stoppage.
Whyte’s versatility and punch selection are still among the best the division has to offer. This time he’ll be more mindful of Povetkin’s power. If Whyte gets off to a good start, he’ll more than likely rely on his athleticism this time around as opposed to chasing an early stoppage.

Povetkin can still go
Povetkin’s stony fists and methodical style ensures he’s far from done. However, the 41-year-old was looking every bit his age and severely outmatched before he drilled Whyte.
He is still dangerous, but the likelihood is that he may have landed the last great punch of his career in the previous fight. Unless Whyte shows him no respect and recklessly charges towards him, he’s going to struggle.
Whyte will even the score
If Whyte starts off like he did in the first fight, he can just step off the gas to avoid another critical error. He has the reach, size, and speed to steer clear of Povetkin’s big shots.
Povetkin’s best chance lies in forcing Whyte to keep the fight in close quarters, giving him the best chance to land short, devastating punches. However, he barely withstood Whyte’s early barrage, and he just doesn’t have the legs to walk him down in the later rounds.
Expect Whyte to pile on the points early, then create some distance in the middle rounds. As Povetkin tires, Whyte will finish the job and stop him in the ninth round.
