Undefeated WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo will face the ultimate underdog on Saturday, June 19 when he steps into the ring with the hard-hitting Juan Macias Montiel.

Charlo is in his prime
Though it is looking unlikely that Charlo will earn a fight with Saul Alvarez or Gennady Golovkin, he has had some dominant performances. In his last fight, Charlo delivered the best performance of his career in pummeling Sergiy Derevyanchenko.
Charlo is a surging champion entering his prime. He has solid fundamentals to go along with exceptional power. Though Charlo may not be as tactical as his twin brother Jermell, his athleticism and explosive power will take him far.

Montiel is an easy mark
Montiel found himself on the verge of a title fight after knocking out the badly faded James Kirkland last December. Though crude, Montiel is a bruiser who has won all of his fights by knockout.
His search-and-destroy offense does have a few shortcomings. His punch selection isn’t particularly impressive and is as one-dimensional as they come. Though he may seem severely outmatched on paper, his power makes him a viable threat for the duration of the bout.
Charlo will win an easy fight
Guts alone don’t win fights, and while Montiel’s glossy KO record looks nice, it wouldn’t be a stretch to argue Charlo is the bigger puncher. We’ve seen Charlo destroy world-class opponents, whereas Montiel has only seven wins against opponents with winning records.
It won’t take long for us to see the chasm in their class. Charlo can start fast and strong, or he can opt to put some rounds in the bank to shake off some rust. Either way, the only chance Montiel has is a miracle KO or an injury.
While it is tempting to take it easy and outclass an opponent who has no business being across the ring from him, Charlo is going to end this as soon as possible. Perhaps it will come from a right cross, or maybe an uppercut on the inside, or maybe a flurry that forces Montiel to quit.
Expect Charlo to quick work of Montiel, and for this bout to be over in three rounds or fewer.
