Boxing Preview: Deontay Wilder vs. Dominic Breazeale
Heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder takes on Dominic Breazeale in New York on Saturday. Check out a preview of the boxing match and free picks below!
On the line: WBC heavyweight title Location: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York Where to watch: Showtime
Undefeated champion Deontay Wilder is a massive favorite in this fight for a reason. Breazeale suffered his only loss to Anthony Joshua, the other undefeated heavyweight champion. Although Breazeale is a talented fighter, he’s in over his head here.
Deontay’s got significant advantages. He’s longer with an 83” reach, faster, and he has more KO power. If Breazeale stands in front of Wilder the way he did against Joshua, Wilder will use his jab to set up thunderous power punches. Wilder should easily win the fight.
If Wilder dominates, which he should, the fight most definitely won’t go the distance. The only fighter to really frustrate Wilder was Tyson Fury. Fury’s got a unique style, one that Breazeale cannot duplicate. Breazeale could keep his distance in order to last. Although that could work for a few rounds, Wilder should eventually get to Breazeale. This fight won’t go the distance.
Dominic Breazeale doesn’t have much of a jab. Even if he wanted to use his jab, he’d have trouble against the much longer Wilder. Breazeale’s best hope is to get inside of Deontay, but that won’t work either because Wilder’s great at fighting inside. It’s hard to see this fight lasting longer than six rounds, much less 9.5.
Breazeale Round Group Betting props offer much higher odds. The odds on Breazeale are no less than +2500 for any group. Unless you want to take a shot on Breazeale sneaking in a lucky knockout punch, it’s best to accept the chalk odds. Breazeale’s not close to Wilder’s level. Backing Rounds 1-3 or Rounds 4-6 could pay dividends.
Shefat Isufi hasn’t fought anyone close to Saunders' level. Isufi won’t last long in this battle. Saunders should figure him out within the first couple of rounds. After that, Saunders will finish Isufi in the middle rounds. If Isufi tries to push forward, Saunders will knock him out much earlier in the fight.
