The 68-team NCAA Tournament field is officially set for 2024, with UConn, Houston, North Carolina, and Purdue each securing No. 1 seeds, while eight teams are poised to duke it out in the First Four on Tuesday and Wednesday for a chance to play in the first round of the tourney.

2024 March Madness times and dates for each round
The 2024 NCAA Tournament will begin with the First Four on Tuesday, March 19, and Wednesday March, 20.
No. 16 Howard will face No. 16 Wagner at 6:40 p.m. ET on truTV before No. 10 Virginia and No. 10 Colorado State go head to head at 9:10 p.m. on the same network.
Wednesday's First Four games feature No. 16 Montana State versus No. 16 Grambling at 6:40 p.m. ET and No. 10 Boise State and No. 10 Colorado at 9:10 p.m.
All First Four games will be played in Dayton, Ohio at UD Arena.

After locking up the Big East regular-season and tournament titles, the UConn Huskies earned the No. 1 overall seed in the East Region of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. The Huskies boast
odds to collect the school's sixth banner. A sixth national championship would move the program into a tie with North Carolina for the third most NCAA titles.The Tar Heels also received a No. 1 seed from the NCAA tournament selection committee and will go for a seventh national championship. UCLA, who did not receive a bid to the 2024 NCAA Tournament, has the most NCAA titles, with 11, followed by Kentucky, with eight.
North Carolina is currently the fifth choice on the NCAA tournament odds board, at , and just fell to North Carolina State in the ACC Tournament final.
The No. 1 seed in the South Region, Houston, is the second choice (
) to win the 2024 NCAA Tournament and also came up short in the Cougars' conference tournament final. Houston, who went 30-4 in the regular season, got blown out by Iowa State, 69-41, in the Big 12 Tournament final on Saturday night.The No. 1 seed in the Midwest, Purdue, is the third choice to win the NCAA title (

- Since the First Four began in 2011, at least one First Four team has advanced to the second round in an all but one tournament. UCLA (2021) and VCU (2011) are the only two First Four teams to reach either the regional final or national semifinal round.
- Kentucky will play in the NCAA Tournament a record 61st time in 2024. North Carolina is second in NCAA Tournament appearances, with 53 as of 2024.
- UNC holds the record for most national semifinal appearances (21), two more than UCLA. UNC and Kentucky are also tied for the second most national championship game appearances (12), one fewer than UCLA's 13. (This does not include vacated appearances by the Bruins.)
